Exactly. Or, the other applicant is a friend of a friend who knows the interviewer, and sometimes, that's all it takes.

Agreed. But with the job market being what it is today -- weak and still very thin on jobs -- employers know they can pick and choose. People are so desperate for jobs that they'll put up with abuse; employers recognize this and get away with it.

Just listen to one story. Some girl wasn't picked because she was texting prior to the interview??? That's very unfair to that girl.
thats what i hate, despise, loathe the most

People can give off tells or warning signs about what kind of employee they are going to be at a first meeting. Texting your bff can wait till later. Save the stupid little personal conversations for some other time. Do you want the job or don't you? Companies want people who are focused and diligent. Why should a company hire you over someone else equally qualified who comes in and is totally focused on the business at hand while you are so busy with your personal life on your stupid phone?

People actually do that on interviews?

It's bad enough when people do that on dates, but interviews...really? Some people have no common sense, do they?

I don't know what I'd say if they had said there was a TV in the waiting room and Jerry Springer was on!

And then they wonder why they don't get the job.
