I was hired on 12/17/12 but officially became part of staff on Monday, Dec 31st after the background check came back clean allowing to me receive my payroll number, company email, and tomorrow I take the picture for my company ID card. Looks like it would have made sense to just start me on January 2nd but I feel very lucky to have this opportunity and will not ever talk down to anyone receiving UC benefits for more than a year because I know how tough it is to find jobs today. I was also lucky enough to get the same type of role which is Job Counselor with a minor role in Job Development which I am excited to learn more so I can take on that role in the future.
and keep the good feelings alive in you evey single day and remember...*you is kind, you is smart, you is important.
I remember that. And I am glad that you got something before you had to panic...too much.
What I did find kind of surprising is if you want to get a second job you have to complete a form. I left the form at my desk but I was shocked to see that as a City employee you have to report information about a second job????
Yes you have to, I worked for a county, and they had to know if you had another job in case it could be a conflict of interest. Like for me, I worked for the Sheriff Department, so we were held to a high standard.
If you don't have a second job why does it matter?

It's all about the option. I may not have been interested in getting a second job but the option was still there if I wanted to do that. But when I found out you have to fill out this form and report the information I was kind of surprised.

Well, that doesn't mean you can't get a second job, just that they want to know. You can always ask HR why they want the information. I felt like part of the reason we had to declare it was also for taxes.
But it's like, you can't get a job working for the police AND a medical marijuana dispensary lol. That might conflict a TAD

Congratulations! That was a long haul!
I am glad you persevered and kept your chin up. Your story may well serve as a hopeful message for others to have patience, and to keep at it.
Great start to the New Year!
