I'm applying to two different jobs in the same company. The jobs have distinctly different duties, however they usually require someone of a similar background(so it's not a career change either way). One job I am doing a similar job at the moment. Do I have apply for both, or the one I have a better chance at?

Sometimes if you apply to one job than you maybe considered for another job within the job if you were to be called in for an interview. Your best bet is to check with company policy through HR.

i would apply for both, personally, unless there's something in the posting or you get an automatic message in response to your first application that says that you will be considered for all relevant positions and only to apply once every 6 months or whatever (i've seen that a few times).

Apply for both. You may be better than the competition for one or the other. We recently ran into this, a woman applied for our opening and one in another department. Though ours paid less, she was not well suited and we passed on her. She got the other.
