They use them at our job. They are stupid and if you know software, you know ways of doing stuff the 'Prove-It' test is not programmed to recognize, so it says you are 'wrong' when it scores you. One tip is a lot of the questions sort of answer themselves. I cant really explain it, but point-and-click on a few answers and some of the time another pop-up box will come up and give you another set of choices. Obviously, you know you are going in the right direction. Also, look for key words in the questions, then look at your tool bar and pull-down menus for those words Ex: "Edit your Formatting in paragraph one" You know to look under "Edit" and "Formatting" as a starting point. Those are pretty basic, but really, just take a minute to analyze the questions, and you will see sort of a pattern. Sometimes the test keeps stats and will tell you where you placed when its over.

Good luck!

I think the assessment tests you're thinking of are personality tests. If that's the case, this will help:

I agree with the answer key. It has been my experience that they are looking for an extreme extrovert, who is trustworthy, doesn't take offense, doesn't cause trouble, who is an extreme optimist. When I've encountered them I just answered appropriately and didn't have an issue. However these tests are total junk science, and they measure how well prepared, or how good you are at decoding what they want to hear.

There was an article somewhere I read that a company said "we don't expect people to have done their research about the test" when confronted about applicants "cheating" on the assessment.

Most people fail a few before getting the hang of it. Any reasonable person may have mixed feeling about many of the question and their answers may change based on their mood. I honestly can't see how anyone can be so cerebrally challenged as to give these things any credibility.

Lazy incompetent people who believe the internet is full of truth?

I'm sure the same people who pay to have these tests on their applications are the same people who click on the "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU'VE WON!" banners on the internet.

Yeah a lot of things depend on situation. (This even goes for specifics like Ross uses.) Say on the Ross test you get a question where two answers sound reasonable. Also take for instance "Are you a risk taker." Unless you goto casinos, buy/sell stocks at weird times and do action sports all the time no one would REALLY say strongly agree. I am actually surprised retail chains want this to be a strongly agree because there is typically a lot of corporate red tape in what you can and cannot do in a particular situation.
