I've had people calling me from places I formerly lived in, asking me for job interviews, months or even a year after applying. Since I move a lot, I always have to tell them the obvious answer, but I think it's pretty funny. I wonder if they keep a lot of their online applications/emails on file for months or years, and when something opens up, they take a look at it?

I sometimes work seasonal jobs too, and I get an annual inundation of emails from several large recruiting companies trying to hire me. I turn down most of them, since they are low-level positions with not so good pay, but sometimes a good offer turns up.

My wife does hiring for her company and she has done this before. She descibed the person as "the one who got away." She was glad for them they had found a job by the time she called, but felt bad for her company at the same time thinking she had chosen badly.

Yes, and also for the city. Government positions work at a snail's pace and based on nonsense (ie. even if they are desperate they cannot hire until they get the green light from the higher ups). Was a wonderful career!

I had a call after six month once. Apparently it was a position they weren't in any hurry to fill. I did get the job.

Sure! I circle back to candidates who have sent me their resumes up to a year ago. I also have candidates who have called me up to two years prior. Sometimes it works out, sometimes not.

i applied to one job and got a call about another one at the same place a few months later once.

i just got rejected for a federal job that i applied for 4 months ago - the e-mail said something in my answers to their questions disqualified me OR they had a lot of applicants who were veterans and they will be interviewing them. it said my resume was not looked at for one of these reasons. and that took 4 months!
