It's a security job that is open in philly and the people I find jobs for have a leg up on the others because once they complete the online application they have the number to call the HR rep who I spoke with this morning.

Someone who is just seeing the posting and applying doesn't have her number and will be just waiting like you are and wondering why they are not being called.

I understand your frustration

That is the issue. Some hiring managers like initiative, some take it because it sounds needy and takes them away from something else they needed to do.

Many people aren't given the that option and the door is closed. Then even IF you are able to call, they do not want you to call them.

Basically i revealed why online applications are usually a joke because if u can't call anyone after it's completed that's it.

You must live in an area that doesn't have tons of people applying, or you just got lucky (name picked out of a hat type deal).

I worked as a staffing manager. We reviewed every single application and if we had an opening that you were qualified for we called you.

Almost every company where I live requires you to complete an online application. I don't understand why you dislike them so much. When I did hiring it made my life so much easier.

clerical or customer service I can see but a job that does not require the use of a computer?? Now I can see how someone can turn to illegal ways of making money because for a dishwasher job you should just be able to fax a resume. You definitely didn't see ads like this in 1999.
Most of those would go to a work force center likely and have help filling it out if needed. Almost all such centers have all jobs listed on computers now days.Een unemployemtn center have them listed on computers and of course their is help available.
