Funny you mentioned this, a recruiter actually contacted me about a job opening that hasn't gone public yet. If you're job hunting and don't have your LinkedIn set up, you're doing it wrong.

I just updated my LinkedIn in May. I'm searching for jobs now.

When you add details about your previous jobs, are you simply copying and pasting from your résumé? Or do you put less in LinkedIn than what you had in your résumé. Also, for those who are currently working but looking, is there a way your employer can tell you are communicating with a company? That is my biggest concern. Unfortunately, I have some connections from my work that I wish I never accepted. Can I block them from seeing my profile or updates?

all that your connections can see is who you're connecting to and what you post publicly, on your profile or in public groups. they can't see if you apply for a job or communicate with someone.

i haven't messed with the privacy settings much so i'm not sure how they work, but i'm sure if you look at the help page on linkedin there is a section about them.

I have much more information on my LinkedIn profile than on my résumé. When I put together a resume, it is is usually tailored for a specific opportunity and limited to one page. A LinkedIn profile has neither constraints.

Additionally, one of the advantages of a LinkedIn profile is the ability to post recommendations from employers, clients and colleagues. I would definitely recommend adding a few, if you haven't already.

Resumes do not need to be limited to one page. That is a fallacy, don't sell yourself short.

generally, i agree with you (2 pages is fine), but the OP is a new grad and generally they don't have enough experience to merit 2 pages.

Define "legit." Did you know that linkedin is FAR MORE effective at reaching HR Directors, Management Recruiters, Talent Managers, and other higher ups that "traditional job searching methods." You are able to send them direct emails as well as connect to their network. Did you realize that a lot of job boards now link you up to the hiring manager through linkedin? If you have a profile on linkedin with a lot of positive endorsements, you will be noticed much quicker and will have a lot hiring managers and or recruiters reaching out to you.

What if you only have a degree and low-end retail and fast food experience?
