Oh my gosh! How embarrassing hahahaha

No joke there are 3 people with my exact name in Denver Metro and 1 is/was in the same industry as me. Fortunately, he hasn't been involved in anything bad LOL.

I am not on facebook, and you would have a hard time finding me on tweeter I barely post there and it's nothing controversial.

I once came up against some psycho on youtube that, just because I seriously handed him his behind in an argument with some good logic, googled my user name and was able to come up with a lot of personal info on me. I used to use the same unique user name on every thing; which is such a stupid noob mistake, I felt like such an idiot believe me.

I use a different user name made up of random words for every single thing I register for. If you use lastpass for it you can have it keep track of all your user names, etc; it will also keep track of multiple accounts on one site for you. I give next to no one personal info as well; real name, birth date, etc, except for companies I do actual business with obviously. All those news site comment sections, forums, even email have absolutely no right to a single bit of your personal info anyway.

Seems like stating the obvious I guess but, there's a lot of freaking lunatics out there. You meet them in your daily life and they hide it well, you would never guess. But give them anonymity on the internet and the truth comes out....

I have that problem. I go by an unpopular spelling of a fairly common nickname of two common names and have a last name that isn't uncommon in New England and Canada. There's another charolastra who is a much older retired porn star, but that's stopped showing up in Google searches. There are two others with my exact spelling who graduated from college the same year as me, and one more is in the same niche field as me. All about throwing my middle initial in there, but it sometimes looks like a typo (like in my Twitter handle) because my nickname ends with the same letter as my middle name.

Someone once did that from City-Data to inform me on every social media channel where I used charolastra00 that I was wrong about Obamacare. There were probably a lot of confused charolastra00s out there. It was VERY creepy.

AStalkingButler is just my username here and it's a reference to a song's lyrics.

Here's what I'm trying to ask in the original post. Say my name is Bobby Davis and my email address is Bobby829@gmail.com. Although the name Bobby Davis yields a clean Google search, as does anything else related to my name, such as "Bobby Davis Portland Oregon" or "Bobby David carpenter," the handle Bobby829 is one I've used to post jokingly and inappropriately on some message boards. You'll find some of these inappropriate posts if you Google "Bobby829." Should I be worried? Or am I good as long as my actual name checks out clean?

Yes, I check everything I can related to the person I am planning to invest money and time in training.

So many people make the mistake of using all or a stub of the same username on multiple sites. If you really don't want potential employers knowing what YouTube channels you subscribe to etc,. CHANGE YOUR USERNAMES!

This.

I have a personal e-mail address that I use for anything professional / work related (such as when looking for a job) and another that I use to e-mail embarassing pictures to my friends from last weekend's party.

I also have a third e-mail address that I never ever use - I created it solely for the purpose of setting up my FB page (on which my name is a nickname, not my real name). I am not saying it would be impossible for someone who knew my name, address and regular e-mail address (such as a potential employer) to find my FB page, but they would need to do some serious detective work as it is not linked to my name or any other on-line activity of mine.

A little bit of common sense can go a very long way to helping one maintain their privacy on-line if they wish.

Well, I need some more information. Do they Google the username part of your email address? Or do they just check Twitter and Youtube? I'm clean as far as Youtube, Facebook and Twitter. My only issue is my username associated with some message board activity from a few years ago.

They can do whichever they want. I have no way of knowing because everyone's different.

But like I said, I Google everything I can.
