Honestly this who background check thing is confusing ..if a background check can pull up your old work history then what's the point of contacting your former employer if the only info they are allowed to spill are dates , title & pay ? The title and dates should show on the report too , right ?

That's not the only information former employers can provide. They can provide anything that is truthful. Wre you absent without prior notice 12 times in the previousl six months? Your former supervisor can say so if I call to check. Are you not eligible for rehire? They can say that as well.

is there duplication between a background check and checking references, absolutely, but the background check isn't only checking past employment.
