I would call after business hours so u can leave a message on the voicemail about the hiring status. I wouldn't suggested trying to have a "LIVE" conversation with a hiring manager about the hiring status because it may be arkward. Then after you leave a voicemail after business hours you can follow that up with a email so that the hiring manager will get both first thing in the morning.

So you can do VOICEMAIL and then EMAIL to get your answer.

Well how did the interview end? Did they give you a time frame?

Almost a week isn't really a long time, if they say something like we will be making a decision by say Aug 9th and it gets to be Aug 15th and you haven't heard than I think a follow up is OK, but your situation depends on what they said to you in regards to a time frame.

You don't want to viewed as pest by calling before they told you when a decision would be made.

My interview went great ..she ended it by saying she wish I could have started training with the class that was already in session. This will be their last week and then a new training class starts immediately. I'm just waiting for my background check to clear. My interview was Wednesday.

It hasn't even been a week yet .. give it a few more days.
Was there a recruiter or someone from HR involved? If so, I'd contact that person before contacting the hiring manager.

You're assuming yours is the last vmail and email a hiring manager gets after hours?
It doesn't matter when you leave a vmail/email.

It's too soon to make contact.

What's the extent of the background check? Just generally checking your references, or a criminal background check?

If you've been interviewed, and you're contacting me after only 2 business days have passed asking about your status - that is going to really annoy me. I don't have much of an update for you (only TWO days have passed), and I've got a lot of other work to take care of.

It sounds like your interview went really well, they will contact you.

If you call at 7pm/8pm and send a email at that time too then it's a strong chance your voicemail and email will be first when they check it in the morning

Background check usually takes 7 to 10 days

It would annoy me, to be honest. If I'm interested and want to hire you, it's not going to slip my mind.
