First off I didn't receive any type of letter in the mail and no word from the company in which I applied. I called to check on my background check after a few weeks had passed and the employer informed me that I did not get the job due to my background check. When I asked why she replied, " I don't know. We get a yes or no response from our corporate office." ...I thought once an error shows up I'm supposed to be contacted so I can try to fix the issue if I feel there was one. I have no criminal history. The company I applied for communicates for death people through the relay telecommunications. I'm not sure what the background check includes but I thought a background check only consisted of criminal history and probably credit seeing how your work and education history are non-public matters.
You can run one on yourself to see what comes up. They will run criminal checks in every county/state you lived in. Also do you have a common name? You can see if that comes up as well. That happened to my husband once but they asked him outright about it and he said that wasn't him. They requested a deeper check (pictures or something) and it was very clearly NOT hubby.
I haved googled my name and nothing has come up. Also I do not have a common name so I'm really confused but I will try contacting them on tomorrow about receiving info on whomever conducted the background check.

don't forget to request a copy of the actual report itself.

The company's required to tell you who ran the background check and give you a report of what they found. Ask them for that info.
That may be state dependent. I know when I worked in CA they had to my last job in Denver no.
That's tough could be person with similar name with problems. I have 3 people in Denver with my exact same name and 2 of us are in the same exact sector, and I found out by accident, from a recruiter, the other guy has a criminal record. He didn't check well enough when I had him run by SS# only it was fine.

That's not true. The background check is to make sure that everything you put in your resume and application is actually correct. They most certainly verify education and work history.
