I had a series of interviews with several people for a position and was informed by the hiring manager that I was their selected candidate for the job (yay!). The catch is that their VP wanted to interview me via phone before things are finalized.

Conversation with VP went ok, but I could have done better in my opinion. My question is, could this make or break my chances? This position is with a past employer and all parties involved are previous colleagues.

Of course it could may or break your chances. But there is no use worrying about it, just hope for the best. I'd probably send a follow up email to the VP thanking him/her for his time and to perhaps clarify a point of two.

Yes, it can make or break it. Not a formality at all.

VP level interviews are not likely to be as in depth as HM managers, but they are serious.

Yep. THIS.

The interview was important, and is not a formality. Your email should reflect the same.

Yes, I sent a thank you email that same day, highlighting points that I failed to make over the phone. Hopefully it makes a difference.

Good, that's all you can do! Time to put it out of your mind and enjoy the 3 day weekend.

I wish it were that easy! Lol

This is an opportunity I've been working a long time towards, so to come this far in the process is a big deal.

The VP will "put the final stamp" on your candidacy.

I'm hoping so. Sounds like I'm the only candidate at this point.

Has anyone else here gotten to this point but only to be given a thumbs down by the higher ups, when everyone else including the hiring manager wanted you?
