most big companies just about when theyre just building out their offsite offices in sparsely populated areas (talentwise). I guess it depends more on where that is. Houston seen a lot of these in the past 15 years and many of the guys I work with were relocated from NYC
Relocation assistance is a dying thing. My company offered minimal assistance (some was better than none!) and it was used as a negotiation piece, but I have a strong feeling someone who started before me and only lived hrs away probably wasn't offered anything.
It all depends on how much they want you, what type of role, ect. Some companies might not even be able to offer anything to anyone.
Tip: don't go looking for jobs just because they will offer relocation assistance. If you can't afford to move for a new job, don't be applying there.
Most companies that I have seen will do this if the skillset is in-demand enough. I got relocation assistance with an internship. It wasn't a ton (like $1,500) but I still got it as an intern.
Raytheon and Boeing. I got two full relos with Boeing and one full relo with Raytheon.
