I was hired by a company pending a background check. I filled out everything on Monday night, the 2nd. On the morning of Tuesday the 3rd I was told that it was submitted and that they would get back to me once the results are in. Now it's Friday morning 10:30 AM. I've heard nothing since. I really would like to get to work as I am running out of funds. It's been 3 full days. If I don't hear anything by 3 or 4 I am gonna have to call them. How long does a background check take? I was thinking it should be processed by now.

5 business days, up to 10-15 business days if you've moved to a ton of different counties/states in the past few years.

Takes about a week, and mine have been completed in as little as two business days.

Depending on what they've got going on and how in-depth the investigation is, it can easily take a couple of weeks so, anything from a few to 10 business days.

Depends. A government background check can take up to a year. A typical background check takes about a week or two.

I accepted the offer. My contract was planned to start on November 9, 2015. I completed all required paperwork and presented the clearance proof for Security Scan. My recruiter told me that I couldn't start working until this question would be cleared.
I follow up every time through e-mail if there are any news about the process with my recruiter, account manager and person who check my background. I have received an e-mail that review is still in progress.
At the same time I am concerned about the fact that I did not start work on November 9, 2015. I am eager to start since last week as it was planned. I tried to speed up the process as much as I could.
Tell me please, how long it will take? May be there is something else that I can do to expedite the progress?
