You do what a lot of other people do. Suck it up and play the game to get in the door. I'm a guy who used to have long hair - nothing illegal about that, but I knew some potential employers might see it as a negative, so I cut it off. Like in anything else, you can choose to compromise or "give in" if you think the benefits of doing so might outweigh the negative consequences of not doing so.

OTOH, if everybody stood up for themselves, then USA might be friendlier place
