Yes it slows down. I have two openings on my team and with both myself and other people involved in the hiring process taking days or even weeks off, it's hard to move anything forward until January. With the way the holidays fall this year, we're not back in full swing until the 6th.

I feel most employers wait till the new year. Some will also before the new year . I took a job during the holidays last year and trust me it is better to wait anyway.. I had a lot of grief since wanted to take vacation and takes that much longer to get up to speed.

Is hiring slow at this time due to holiday season?

It always used to be. The holiday season isn't ideal for some companies to bring on a new hire and I know some are reluctant to cut someone loose during this time. By mid-January it's a new ballgame.
