I offered a part time job today for 7.50 an hour for a gas station clerk. I said thank you but no thanks, shook the interviewers' hands, gave them my resume, and said if a position opens up in the pharmacy deparment feel free to call me.

So you have pharmacy qualifications and they offered you a gas job? That makes no sense. It would have made more sense if they had offered you a customer service desk job while waiting for a pharmacy slot.
It was. The OP was simply frustrated with the offer being it's a small wage and part time to boot. Many people have been forced into taking jobs like this while seeking full-time or something in a different field they trained for. The job market is still an employers market, Despite all the "rosy" news coming out of Washington and the media with their cooked books not reflecting the real statistics. Will be this way for a while. Long away are the days where employers were struggling to find and recruit workers. There has been some improvement but we have miles to go before we sleep.

They said their pharmacy was already staffed but offered me another position since they liked me.

Do you need the job? Why did you turn it down? It could have been a foot in the door and possibly given you an advantage down the road since you would be an internal candidate.
