I had a skype interview with a campus recruiter yesterday. His email said: "Most interviews will be held via Skype for 30 minutes." However, mine lasted only 10 minutes. I was asked questions like what is your definition of success? I answered it pretty well I thought. He said he would forward my resume to the managers next to determine whether to move forward or not, and to give 1-2 weeks depending on manager availability, and that the phone interview will last 30-40 minutes, and said he would keep in touch. Is this a bad sign? I think he also said we'd go through my resume but we never did.

It's certainly not a good sign.

Could be that 30 minutes was the max time he had allotted for the interview, but he got everything he needed in 10. Some may have taken longer if they asked a lot of questions or were long-winded with their answers.

It sounds like this was a screening interview to see if they actually want to take it further. For good or bad, he was able to make that determination in less time than he had blocked off on his calendar.

I believe he interviews people every 30 minutes, mine started at 3:00 PM and his next scheduled interview is at 3:30. He asked some cliche stuff like how do you define success etc. Then he talked about how the job is commission based and asked my preferred working locations. He said he will submit my resume off to the hiring managers, and that it would take 1-2 weeks depending on availability. But on his initial email it said the interviews with a manager takes place within a week after the skype interview.

He said it's up to the hiring managers to decide whether they wanna give the next interview or not, so I have no idea what this skype interview was for then.

Here's what the email entails

This will be a two step interview process
Skype interview with recruiter Brandon Reichard
If we move forward, we will schedule you in for a 30-40 minute phone interview with a manager
2nd interview typically happens within a week after your 1st interview with me (based on manager availability)
Within 24-48 hours we will let you know our decision and whether we will move forward with you

That's not the recruiter's real name, right?

Recruiters are not hiring managers. He is indeed looking for candidates he can sell to the hiring managers. I have worked with them in the past and they have secured me interviews. The first phone interview lasted a solid 45 minutes though and she asked me all sorts of really great questions, not just about my education/experience, but about my personal life as well. Then it was followed up with her contacting me via email with updates and a few more phone calls. She then had them give me a phone interview that went very very well. She then scheduled everything for the in-person interview and made sure everything was in order. So, based on this I would say it does not sound so great as of right now, but you never know. All these recruiters are different. I would expect a longer interview.

Did he actually say interviews are 30 minutes long, or did you infer this from finding out that the next interview was 30 minutes later? Maybe he only interviews for 15 minutes and uses the gap time to look over the next person's application materials and sort out any technical problem that may arise.
