Say for example someone on a site that is known for being inaccurate, hateful, and pisses people off decides to do an article on you that is less than favorable. Suing for defamation is a long process which can takes years and a lot of money. The person on that site uses your real name and photo and writes something about you that isn't true and when employers google your name that post comes up.

Will they care to look into what the post is accusing you of or will they immediately reject you because your name ended up on a hate blog?

The site is known for being inaccurate or the person is?

If a person has posted defamatory comments about you that are untrue, contacting the admins of the site and complaining might get the article removed.

The site itself.

many recruiters/ hiring managers will google you before they even call you...

the best way to overcome someone or some company that has made it its business to destroy you is to have someone in the organization speak on your behalf. you either need an inside connection or at least a headhunter who will go to bat for you and sale you to the company

when you say organization do you mean the one you apply for or the one that has tried to ruin you?

Do you have a middle name that you can start using as a first name.

Adrian Rebecca Roberts magically becomes Rebecca Roberts on her resume. By the time you are supplying HR with proof of identity you are probably hired and then explain that even tho your official name is Adrian (as on license and passport) since you were a kid everyone has called you Rebecca.

Okay - I'm curious. What site is known for trashing reputations that you are worried about?

do employers care about who is defaming you on the internet and will they bother to look into the accusation or will they just assume the person defaming you is right?
