I was asked by a female Dentist if I had a problem working for a female boss. I answered that I had plenty of female bosses in the military and in the civilian world and that it never occurred to me that it would be a problem. Honestly, it had never been an issue.

Until...

She promptly became the WORST boss I ever had and I left after 3 months. That question has now been added to my list of red flag questions.

"What do you want to be engraved on your headstone?"

Caught me completely off guard. I don't remember what I said.

"If you could host a cocktail party and invite any 5 people you wanted, who would you invite?"

I named 1 politician, 1 musician, 1 author, a couple other famous people, I can't remember who. The interviewer promptly asked "not your husband?" I said he'd be there anyway, he lives there. I didn't get the job, nor did I really want it after that.

I was on a panel once and we asked "if you had a super power what would it be?" We got some interesting answers.

Candidates go to great lengths to look great for the interview. I like to thank them for coming prepared/dressed and follow that up with a question.

For example: "Thank you for dressing up. What kind of knot is that?"

Just to get an idea to their attention to detail. It's more about how they respond than the actual answer.

I'd like my super power to be deciphering why a professional would ask this q on an interview... unless it were for the Superpower Costume Store.

Why? Do you only hire men? Or do women also wear ties to their interviews? And, your reasoning for asking is... ?

I don't know. I had nothing to do with the questions.

No, I don't only hire men. Why would you think that? Women don't wear ties to their interviews... at least not the ones I participate in.

Attention to detail.

The question I found dumbest and most offensive was "What are you passionate about?" Gee, I'm passionate about having a job and an income so I can eat and pay my bills, otherwise where are you going with this?
