Good afternoon peeps. So I applied for a position with a company and I received an email back to set up a phone interview, but I have never done one before. So I need advice on how to do good on it. So I applied for a job and I got an email back in regards to setting up a phone interview. I just want to know if anyone has any experience with these types of interviews, either as an applicant or as the interviewer, and if they have any advice to knock the interviewer of their feet.
As well, is a phone interview usually a last step before being offered an actual job, or is the next step usually a face to face interview. Any advice is welcome and I appreciate the time you guys are taking out of your busy lives to answer my question. Thanks
Next step is the face to face, I havent seen anyone get hired straight from 1 phone interview. I have had a few phone interviews and most of them have lead to in person interviews.
They are typically screenings just to get a feel for your personality and skills. They are usually casual, so you can feel a bit more comfortable with it and they are short, so you dont need to get overly technical.
Poke around and ask questions about the job description
You can google information about phone interviews, which will give you some questions which are pretty standard across the board (e.g., "tell us about yourself and why you want to work here"; "tell us about your strengths and areas of improvement" etc.). They may ask you some industry-specific questions which you should also try to anticipate.
Always have a minimum of two questions prepared to ask them. Normally this happens at the end, when they turn the tables and ask if you have anything to add. Not having something prepared isn't good. Even if it's just to say, "although I have a solid grasp of the duties required for the position, tell me about the day-to-day qualities you are looking for in an outstanding employee."
Since the phone interview (presumably) is not through videochat, you can have these answers already prepared and typed in front of you for ease of use. Good luck!
Speak your heart out and show them you are capable. The best part about phone interviews is that no one is judging what you look like (nervous, jittery, etc)
