Default I got fired for lying

I got a good job with a global aerospace co. I was hired on a Monday wednesday i was flown to the east coast , Thursday i reported to my location i had a rental car hotel lap top cellphone and was immediately in 4 meetings a day.
i thought this was great . I had 25 years experience in my field and was very well respected, each evening after work we would go to 5star restaurants and order what ever open bar etc.
after a week and a half HR called me and said "please help us verify your degree". this was after i thought they did their backround check on me I thought for a hour , i knew i was in trouble big trouble . I called a few friends on what to do and best to fess up . i called the HR lady and told her . her reply was " we fire people for that "im going to check with my boss " i said does 25 years of experience count? she said no and hung up .
next morning i got a tap on the shoulder and pulled into a vacant office it was 9 am i was terminated and was told i could stay one more night at the hotel and to make arrangements to fly home to LA turn in the cellphone laptop and rental car and that was it.
on the flight there were about 15/20 of my co workers that i had spent the past 10 days eating drinking and working with and it was so embarrassing i felt like a piece of crap i guess i learned the hard way . that totally sucked

I think you mean "purposely lied" not "personally lied".

That said, it is good to know just what is being asked and how it is defined......but don't quibble it. Ie, what Clinton did by cutting the definition down so minutely. Quibbling is seen in many circles as undesirable in a person.

About knowing what is being asked, how it is defined. In my criminal justice personnel class, we were going over the police application. One of the questions was "Have you ever possessed illicit drugs?" With police applications, as with governmental security instructions, they define what is meant by possessed (ie, sold, transferred, couriered, etc..). I asked "What about as official duties?" and was told, "Then they weren't illicit."

Up to that point in my life, I was seeing "illegal" and "illicit" as the same thing, but if you have something illegal under official reason (we had busted a drug boat off the coast of Colombia), then it is not illicit.

I was discharged from the Navy after being passed over for promotion twice. My DD214 says honorably discharged. I do not see that as being "fired". Some might argue I was, but it is in the interpretation. Further, to support my reasoning, I left the Navy with perfect fitreps from my last posting.....to say nothing about that post was one that they didn't assign those they didn't want around to.

It comes down to what do you believe? Now, if there are official documents or events that are pretty clear that says "fired", that's one thing. But if not and one honestly believes otherwise, then it is not lying.

HOWEVER, one may reach a situation where not everyone agrees with their interpretation. I was interviewing for an investigator position in a Secretary's Office. The police officer interviewing me reviewed some of my documents about one of my claims and afterward said, "I understand why you believe this way.". He did not say my documents were wrong, he didn't say I was wrong, but perhaps in the current accepted definition, the past definition had been bypassed.

I wasn't hired for that post and I think it was because I didn't have in court testifying experience. As it was, I don't think they hired anyone for the position.

Do you honestly believe what you put down on an application? Or to put it another way......if on the polygraph, what would it reveal?

Never lied, but its kinda of easy for me because I resigned with references and a letter of recommendation. Sometimes I just put "relocation".

Never put fired, that's just stupid. You put start date and end date, job that you did. They like the jobs close start to finish and starting again.Proof that you worked there is all you need.If they ask why did you leave? Say you weren't getting anywhere and needed to be more productive.

Agree with the ''don't say fired''. Say laid off.

Companies can tell hire and end date, salary, position name, and eligible for rehire or not.

In my experience ''laid off'' people are never looked at for rehire, so no one will know whether you were let go thru firing or lay-off.
