Hi guys,

Would it be strange to format the dates for my most recent job as follows (my concern is the part in bold):

March 2013 - late April 2014

Here's why I'm considering doing it - I left the position on April 28, and have been unemployed for six weeks. However, without the "late" on my resume, it appears that I have been unemployed for much longer.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Naviva

I would put May 2014 and if you have an interview, explain it at that time.

Just leave it off, I don't think it is that big of a problem.

IMO the "late" just draws attention to it

Over thinking. April 2014 is enough. The particular week in April (early/late) doesn't matter.

It does the opposite. Resumes don't typically specify late or early in the dates, so these dates would stand out. You are pulling my attention to your employment dates.

Agree. That will stand out to the HR person and you'll only be cornered into a more uncomfortable position.

Usually, experience is interpreted fairly liberally. When I once met with a career counselor, we counted the first and last months both as full months. So even if I started a job on March 31st and got fired the next day, it would still look like two months. But that is an extreme example.

Those are all very valid comments, thank you. Anyone else second MPowering1's advice to put May?

^ This.

Late looks ridiculous.

I don't think it will hurt or help you much either way in terms of someone judging your unemployment length.

Where it may come up as an issue is if they decide to do an employment check.

You can probably get away with it, but realistically it's not worth the risk.
