I had a phone screen interview with HR about 3 weeks ago. I thought she had an updated version of my resume (with no employment gap), but she had the older one. Sometimes I use the resume with employment gap because it makes my story easier to tell and my background is more focused. I thought that the call went okay and she said she will let me know the following week as they are finalizing candidates. She also asked me for the updated version which has no employment gap. I sent it that with a thank you note.

I never heard anything back so I followed up after 2 weeks. Now it has been 1 week with no response. Do I follow up again? There was a confusion with the different resume versions and I'm hoping this didn't get my automatically rejected or something.

Call today. Don't leave a voicemail message. Call at different times until this person in HR actually answers the phone. You have waited long enough that you shouldn't feel like you are being inpatient at all.

After three weeks, hopes for this are slim to none. A phone screen with no follow up is quite common.

You didn't get the job. Hr types will always choose deceitful and evasive techniques over dialing a phone or emailing a simple form letter. Unless you are a proficient and profligate liar as well as possess sociopathic tendancies then you aren't getting hired. This is why so many companies are going out of business these days. Which is why the economy continues to suck. Back when the economy was booming hiring was done on the basis of skills and intelligence so quality candidates were hired. Today hiring is based on personality. No wonder why businesses and the economy continue to tank. Complete incompetence.
