How much interview lead time do you ask for? Unless the interview is spontaneous i.e. I run into someone, I think it's reasonable to schedule these things out a week or two.

Am I the only one who thinks that calling someone Monday to ask them to come in Tuesday for an interview is a compliance test?

One day is not really sufficient notice if you're currently employed to be able to schedule a little time off and perhaps travel to the interview site. Given the conditions of the labor market, a lot of employers will operate with a lack of courtesy.

It's not a compliance test.

If you can't make it the next day, reschedule. Either they're looking for an immediate hire, or the interviewer has an opening tomorrow.

After doing a large number of interviews, I can tell you trying to put meaning to anything the company does is pointless. My first concern is my regular work. If an essential meeting or emergency comes up, our interview is moved or cancelled. Maybe it'll be a week or more before we can bring everyone together to interview again. The interviewee just sees a company dragging its feet, or playing games. In reality, it's just different priorities.

You're right, I shouldn't be reading anything into it. I'm just dealing with someone who keeps trying to set things up with just 1-2 day notice and it's driving me crazy.

Yes, it's annoying. I would expect most employers to respect that you need X number of days notice for an interview. Unless they are looking to hire someone tomorrow, I don't see how it could be an issue.

We will generally schedule interviews for only two days, and do them all day both days if we choose to interview that many candidates. I have never seen them scheduled for less than a week in advance, and we don't do rescheduling for the convenience of an applicant. If they can't make it on the day(s) we offer, they would be out of luck. It's difficult to schedule the time for the HR person, hiring manager, and possibly other interviewers to be available.

That makes complete sense. I was just blowing off some steam. On a Monday a friend told me in passing that she would see me when I came in for an interview that Friday. The interviewer waited until the day before to invite me. This is how they recruit.
