I work for a major player in the market of applicant tracking software.
Although I have learned a lot , one of the biggest things I found shocking and didn't know was that when you apply , you can either be immediately declined based on answers you submitted or if an HR person reviews , you can that way as well. Obviously everyone knows that.
The shocking thing for me was that they can set a time for when the status's change and when you receive your denials. So say you submit an app , in the system you can immediately be declined the minute you send it without an HR rep ever reviewing it. But yet , the system is configured so they wont send you a denial letter until a certain amount of days after you submit it. Same as if an HR rep denies it at whatever stage in the process , you could already be denied but not get that letter for quite some time.
Forgive me if people already knew this , just see a lot of people constantly post about status's and what it really means.
I guess the real answer is nothing until you hear a response.
Obviously I do know quite some other things about the software so feel free to ask any questions if you'd like and ill do my best to respond.

I don't knowthe reason for the delay maybe they're trying to save face or appear busier
Because the theory is , how would you feel if you filled out this long app and got an instant denial.
You would probably never apply again.
Its all about the customer experience , as in the applicant experience.
The thing I should also mention is that although thousands of large and small companies use our software, that doesn't mean all of them use these features . I'm assuming its really based off of how many apps they receive and what they can physically handle.

This is why you focus on jobs ads that only require your email resume directly to an actual person which is a lot better than online applications.
