to you after emailing resume? I recently applied to a major aerospace company. Years ago I worked for GE and it took weeks to get an interview then months for an offer. The whole process maybe six months. Is it still that way with mega-firms? Another question. Is age the still a big factor? They're going to see from the dates on my resume I'm just a few years from normal retirement.
At a mega-company, it took a week or two to get an offer.
When the hiring manager has decided to hire you, they still have to submit the offer up the chain for approval. It goes through many layers of management at the Fortune 100 companies.
At a smaller company(5k-10k) employees, they offered the job within an hour. They didn't need approval from executive management.

There is no set answer for when a organization responds to a submitted resume because all companies are different. What you can try doing is applying to jobs in the evening so that your resume will stand out more because of not being included with other emails during business hours. That used to be one of my job search strategies because I felt that it had a better chance of being read since it was arriving at a slow time of the day.

I think the OP was asking how long does it take to get a response after submitting a resume not a job offer.
After submitting my resume, the Fortune 100 companies call me back about 1-4 weeks later. The small companies(5-10k) call back within 4-5 business days.

The advice I've seen is to limit your resume to your jobs in the last 10-15 years, and don't put giveaways like graduation dates on the resume. Experience is an asset, but there are other ways to indicate that, like senior job titles, an obvious high level of responsibility in your descriptions of the jobs, etc. For a while I used a tagline indicating "10+ years of experience in...." -- I could actually claim fifteen years or more but I'd rather not make myself look older. (I'm mid-40s.)
