I applied to a place around three months ago and never heard anything from them, until about 2 weeks ago when the HM contacted me via email and asked if I was still interested in the position. I was pretty excited and we agreed on a day and time to talk via phone, but unfortunately she never called me. So I shot her an e-mail that day and we were able to talk on the phone the following week.

We had mutual interest so I was brought in for an interview. I don't know the reasoning for the opening, but I checked online at the time and the position wasn't posted on any of the job sites. Anyway, it went really well. I met with multiple people and I liked them; they liked me. She said that she would definitely be in contact with me the following week.

The next week passes and I didn't hear anything from them. I was still giving them the benefit of the doubt because they strike me as being pretty slow, but today I saw that they've just posted the position online.

Is it safe to assume I'm out of the running when they've just posted the vacancy online? Would it be a waste of time continuing to put my hopes in them, or should I just forget them and move on?

It sounds like one of two things.

1. They wanted to save time and cost by using previous applicants, you (and any others) were not a good fit.

2. You are still in the running but HR decided that they couldn't let the HM just hire you without going through their normal process.

Unfortunately that may not be helpful, because the answer to your question remains "Maybe." I would keep applying elsewhere but not be too surprised if they call you eventually. Of course, you could always call and ask.

Have you followed up with them since your interview?

The thank you note was the last contact I've had with them after the interview, around 2 weeks ago. She mentioned during the interview that they would definitely be contacting me, so I don't wanna seem like a nuisance or anything, because they have been slow a bit.

Thanks CapsChick. Should I mention I saw the reposted job online or just not mention that at all?

Thanks Hemlock. I did notice that the job I interviewed for, as well as 10 to 15 other new positions at that company, were also posted all on the same day a couple days ago.

No, do not mention you saw the reposted ad. Just follow up like you would if you haven't heard back from them yet. That is not being a nuisance. It was left open-ended so there is nothing wrong with following up to see where they are at and letting them know you are still interested. Give them a few bullet points why you are qualified or something to sum up your last interview/conversation to quantify why you are the best candidate.

I went through something similar last year and after 2 phone calls and 2 emails and no answer, I finally gave up waiting for a reply.

It seems these job openings change weekly like shifting sands, there one minute, gone the next.

Do you really want the job? If so persist a bit more. Otherwise let it go and move on.

Thanks. I do but they seem a bit dysfunctional to me. It really is a nice place from what I saw. I will definitely follow up with them.
