If you interview for a position and fly home afterwards but you want to send out the thank you email the same day, is 10:30pm considered an okay time or do most interviewers think emails received after a certain time are inappropriate? The interviewer knows that I arrived back home around 9pm. I am curious to know for future reference.
I personally don't think it matters. It's not like email is a disruptive means of communication. The recipient can chose to read/not read and respond whenever (or if at all).
That said - you sending it the same day vs. a day later isn't going to matter either.
The time of day doesn't matter at all. I receive email messages through the evening and night. I check my messages in the morning and read/respond as appropriate.
The specific time you send a thank you message will jot effect your candidacy one little bit.
