My experience has usually been a week. The last professional job I had I was offered the job during the interview.

Sometimes I think these HR and recruiter people just post jobs and interview for something to do to justify their jobs. So many of these jobs seem bogus. Posted over and over and over. Some I've seen for years.

Either that or they are horrible jobs where no one stays for long.

In general this has been my experience to. While I don't want to say that there is some hard and fast rule of "if you don't hear back in 3 days then kiss the job good bye", my experience has been, at least for the general entry level jobs: the longer it takes to hear back, the greater chance of you not getting the job.

As for the same jobs being posted over and over again, yes it is very annoying but I think a part of it is the front of house is not communicating with HR. That is when I go the Companies career section, I am wondering-

1) How many of those jobs are actually still open?

2) Have any been filled internally or cancelled outright and for whatever reason they are not taken off the website?

3) That job posting that has been there for over 2 months, is it really still open or did it fill up a while ago and for whatever reason it was never taken off the website?

-It all boils down to, "how many of those jobs are actually still open, are you actively trying to fill them or are we just collecting resumes ?"

This is just the way the modern works.

No response = rejection

Same with everyday interactions such as asking a friend if they want to hang out
