I would never recommend giving a previous employer that paid you under the table or failed to pay you. Your current situation is just one reason, another is that if you were paid under the table you have participated in IRS fraud, which never looks good to an employer. You are not likely to be the only qualified candidate being considered, and this kind of negative can bump you out of the running faster than an 8 month gap.
