Is it appropriate to follow up on a submitted job application if you've not heard from the company? (interview, applications)

I realize that may seem presumptuous or possibly annoying to the company. This job is one in my dream field and I don't see them advertised that often, so I don't want to make a wrong impression by asking if they've had a chance to review my resume when they may be bombarded by applicants. Yet because it is a dream job I don't want to slip beneath their notice.

I guess I just want to know what the proper etiquette is in this situation? Just wait for their reply? And if I do that and still hear nothing, I imagine after a certain amount of time, maybe a few weeks so they've had time to look over the applications received, it would probably be okay to follow up, wouldn't it?

I'm also asking because just today I saw them post the job details again on Facebook, and I wonder if that means they haven't found the right person yet based on resumes received, or if they just want a wider net of people to choose from.

There is no etiquette really.

You are free to inquire after an application or interview as you wish.

I never have followed up though. If I got an offer, good, if not, I moved on. In this online world of ours, if an employer really wanted me, they would have notified me within a few weeks.

In my eyes if an employer continues to post a job I applied for, especially a reposting, it means they are still looking.

I never bought the thought that an employer needs to interview more people in order to get the best possible applicant. They either like you or they don't.

You can always follow up to make sure your resume was received. I wouldn't expect anyone to tell you that it has been reviewed.

If you keep seeing a job posted over and over it definitely doesn't mean anything good. It means either the job is

1. Fake

2. Or the position has a high turnover
