Do you have to know everything that is listed on the duties and SKAs (skills, knowledge and abilities) section for you to confidently apply for the job?

Knowing some of them is better than not knowing any thing at all but does it make you confident to apply for the job even though you feel you are under qualified for it? Personally, I get so overwhelmed of what is listed on the job posting that makes me hesitate to apply for the job. Do you guys feel the same way?

I just sent off a letter to a employer who may or may not respond. The position uses these machines...Mazak, DMG Mori, Doosan Not a frigging clue as to them. I know they are CNC, (but no clue as to how they are programmed or run)

But the key term the ad had was "Set up and programming is desired, but NOT required"

Good enough for me. I was only a parts loader....Maybe I could try to understand programming....I'll wait and see....

I tend to stay away form the ones which have me lifting 50+ lbs....but that's another topic.....

I have had jobs offered that I "Thought" I couldn't match skill for skill....There's THE skill, then there's "Similar" and then "Close enough"....Many jobs I got were "Close enough" when they weren't really even close....

When I was looking, if I matched at least 70% of the skills listed, I would apply.

Does it also apply for "required" certifications?

It's worth a try. Thinking about the last few hires I have made, the last being about 4 years ago, there was always at least 2-3 applicants that appeared to meet all of the SKAs, and it was among those that I hired. If no one had all of them, it would depend on whether those missing were easy to acquire in a short period of time with training. If so, a candidate with most of it would be considered. If not, I would go back to the drawing board and start over with another recruitment.
