Alright I'll bite the bullet. I was wondering if anyone could help with suggestions on a career change for me.

A little about me. I'm mid 40's, working security in the Los Angeles, CA area. Been promoted to manager a few months ago making ok money. Remember I'm in expensive L.A., so what passes for great money in say NJ isn't so great here.
I'm as high as you can go in the company. And getting burned out because of constantly dealing with phone calls from the boss and not really having any "off" time.

I worked for 20 some years in construction. I've looked for construction employment here and they just aren't paying very well. Cannot move out because I'm attached to a house.
I'm Caucasian and speak very limited Spanish.

I'd really like to be self employed. I have the drive and discipline, but not sure what would be profitable in my area. I was thinking about getting some training in welding and maybe finding welding work which classically pays decent. If I could get over my disgust of others bodily fluids I'd look into nursing but thats not something I'd want to do, I'd just be into it for the income potential.

I'm mid 40's and really don't want to be in school into my 50's trying to learn a career to help me retire. But open to taking some type of shorter term schooling for something.
Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you have the funds to start your own security company, or do you not want the head ache?

Getting a PPO license is a long and expensive process. But I do freelance for events sometimes. Just wish the freelancing was more steady and profitable. But there are security companies left and right here in L.A.
