It can be done quickly, but it is not recommended. It is much better to do this well in advance.

I would never say the reason you're leaving a job is for more money, huge no no! Instead what you do is apply for the positions that interest you best. 99% of employers will flat out tell you the pay or starting pay because no one wants their time wasted. It's up to you to see if you want to accept it and negotiate AFTER they offer you the position.

Also, it seems common now employers ask either verbally or on application what is the least amount of money you are required.

The job I just accepted offered me more money than I wanted. When interviewing the assistant director told me the base salary and I went on and interviewed because I was willing to settle because of the benefits and my career goals. Then they offered me the job and offered me $1k more. Then the sent me the contract and sent me another 1k lol
