You've probably heard about that company in Indiana that outsourced to Mexico. There are some that say that it's just because of corporate greed that they want cheap labor in other countries. Others say that it's because our government makes it far harder to start and keep running a business in the US than in other countries. We have a pretty high (compared to many other countries) corporate income tax. On the flip side, quite a few of the companies that are outsourcing are ALSO pushing for Amnesty for illegals and/or big H1B visa increases, indicating that they may have less than noble reasons for outsourcing/offshoring.

So, overall, do you think that more companies outsource because our government is too costly, or because they figure that they can get cheaper labor internationally than they can in the States and because they care more for profit than country?

(Also, to be fair, it's not just national governments making it harder to run a business, some state and local governments are guilty of doing this too. Indeed, there have been cases where companies will outsource from a high cost state (like Illinois) to a lower cost state. Same thing with Chicago, which has a very high property tax (among other things). Companies are leaving the city because of it.)

Call it corporate greed if you want to, but the whole idea of owning a business is to make as much money as possible, and that means the highest possible revenue at the lowest possible cost. In the case of a small business owner (I did that for 16 years) a rent increase for your commercial space or a higher minimum wage can mean the difference between feeding your family or starving. For the large corporation, the CEO and other executives answer to the board and shareholders, so their jobs depend on profits. Very few companies are going to remain in a high cost area and deal with our cumbersome labor laws if they can outsource, especially when the cost of shipping the products back is much less than the additional cost of labor here. The exception is in the industries where there is a big demand for the best employee skills, such as in Silicone Valley, CA, where recruiting the best requires being in a place where people want to live, and the salaries reflect the cost of living and the competition for the best people.

If you don't want companies to outsource then you need to only buy American products. When most stuff is made avtoad and costs a fraction of a similar product made here it makes it very hard for American businesses and products to stay competitive. Consumers don't want to but the more expensive stuff just because they feel patriotic. It is the consumer's fault as well.

Easier said than done. It's hard to identify U.S. made products. My Ford Ranger has an Engine built in Germany, transmission built in France. My Dodge Challenger was assembled in Canada, engine built in Mexico. We watched a TV show touring the plant in Tennessee where the Lodge cast iron cookware is made, but when we bought their Dutch Oven at a local store the box said "made in China." When we were looking at 55" TVs, we saw one that had a big "Made in USA" on the box, but upon closer inspection, there was fine print below that said "assembled from components made in China."

Also, it's hard to convince people struggling to get by that they should boycott the lower cost imported goods.

It's greed plain and simple. Corporations making billions of dollars annually are allowed to pay little to nothing in taxes while receiving billions of dollars in handouts (corporate welfare) from the federal government. While those corporations pay little to nothing in taxes the small business owners and regular folks get taxed to the hilt. As long as corporations are allowed to continue buying and controlling members of the legislature and even supreme court justices this blatant criminality will never end.

I'm not sure how this got into a rant about corporations paying taxes (or not), but with capital gains tax, it doesn't really make sense for corporations to pay taxes.

Clearly you skimned and didn't actually read. Too many corporations earn billions and pay no taxes at all. Not paying taxes is also a part of corporate greed. It makes complete sense that corporations pay taxes on all their earnings just like everyone else.

You can't treat corporate taxes the same way you treat personal taxes. If you did, you would have to make sure that people are double-taxed as well. It's not a fair comparison.

How many times do I have to say it? Corporations earning billions annually pay little to no taxes at all and receive billions to trillions in corporate welfare annually as well. I'm taxed on all of my earnings so corporations better be doing the same. No more corporate welfare, no more sweetheart tax breaks, and no more bailing the corporate criminals out when they run their businesses into the ground. Small business people and the poor and middle class are not responsible in any way, shape, or form, for the financial protection of these parasites.

Double taxed, the way you imply it, makes no sense.

People pay income tax, sales tax, and land taxes. That is triple taxation in my mind.

Corporations pay very few taxes, and at a much lower level than the past. If the corporation does not pay dividends, as many don't, there isn't any real taxation on profits at all. They are sheltered overseas.
