I'm an acute care Oncology certified and chemotherapy certified nurse. I'm getting older and have hurt my back recently (lifting a 500 lb pt, max lift 7+ nurses... It got better {bonus points for Monty Python reference}) and so when a easy position opened up working at a clinic as a physician's RN opened up, I applied. I wouldn't have even thought about it, but he's a good doctor. I got beat out by a newer nurse who was willing to burn her bridge by only giving 1 week notice and commanded less salary.

I didn't need the position. I'm not sure I even WANTED the position. But it still smarts.

Wine is helping...

Your current job is badly needed and in demand. You are doing the most compassionate job ever and very life changing. You are way too good for that other job.

It's interesting how we try to soften the blow from not getting a job offer.

We'll try to convince ourselves after an interview that it's not an important job, we might not take it even if offered, so on.

Yet it still stings when we get that rejection. Basic human nature I guess.

So true. I don't know how else to justify the issue though. I'm OVERqualified? I have TOO much experience? She's prettier?

For the record this is a small world. Yes I know her. Yes I know her qualifications.

Your over qualification probably had nothing to do with her getting hired instead of you. If the other nurse had the qualifications and able to do the job, for less money, that is probably the reason. The Doctor probably has figured in what is the going rate of pay for that position, and was looking for a nurse with the right qualifications to fill the job.

Your higher qualifications and your making considerable more money, would have been the deciding factor. He hired the best he could find that was qualified for the job, and the pay he was offering was satisfactory to that nurse and not a big cut in pay involved. This is how it goes, in any field.

She's prettier? Maybe because she is younger.
It can be subtle age discrimination, but more details are needed.
