Nothing is certain until they make you an offer.

There are lots of signs I've encountered in the past that led me to believe I was getting a job, and then I didn't get it. Alternately, I've encountered lots of signs that I wasn't going to get offered a job, only to be offered it.

You don't have a job until you're extended a written offer, and the terms negotiated and accepted. Even then, I've heard horror stories from others on CD indicating they'd accepted new positions, resigned from their previous jobs, and had the rugs pulled out from under them. I don't think this is the norm, but it seems to be the reality for some.

Even after an offer you may not get the job. When you walk in the first day and get a card key, you have the job. We do the offer contingent on the background check, plus any other requirements listed as "have or be able to obtain". In some cases, similar to yours, if it's close between 2-3 people we will not make an offer until after the background and reference checks, using them as a possible tie breaker.

They checked my references and made me an offer. There will be a drug and background test...not an issue.
