Left my Executive Assistant job of 18 years in 2012 to be a stay-at-home mom. Will be looking for work again after my fiancé takes partial retirement. My former supervisor wrote me a very glowing recommendation letter back in 2012. Going back to school is not an option at this time but maybe two or three years from now when my son is in kindergarten. I am 44. Honestly, are my chances of being hired in the clerical field quite slim? Would I have better luck in retail or grocery? (mostly going back to work for personal gratification first... Money is nice but secondary).

You should be fine. 18 years of experience along with what I would assume are solid clerical skills should result in a decent chance at landing some interviews. I would make sure to explain the gap in your job history on any cover letters you send with your resume. My only suggestion would be to make sure your computer skills are current with the latest software.
