...and they all have 100-500+ apps already, even those which were posted less than 24 hours ago. This is in a city with a population of about 200,000. :-(

what, all copy and paste? most of my applications took at least an hour

besides if you could apply for so many, it means it is just as easy for others to apply as well

That is the only means to apply for most of them. This is the Internet age, and most places have done away with paper applications altogether.

How on earth could you apply for 18 jobs in a single morning? What is your secret?

I type 140 words per minute.

only way? not really, i mean if you were doing it like a blind shot in the dark sure, its the only way. but most of my jobs while i had to apply, it was only after i talked with the manager first and knew what they wanted. then i applied as a formality for hr. why apply if you the schedule wouldnt work out, or if you wouldnt fit in? just saves time if you get an informal meeting with the boss before applying.

have you even tried to look for a job without relying on the internet? sure it makes things easier, but it is hardly the sole method. it is no different than cold calling or approaching someone with a sales pitch. you go and talk to them and sell yourself. if they buy into you, then apply.

how do you think people did it before the internet? nothing has changed except people seem to have forgotten how to interact with strangers

Kind of difficult. In this city, hiring managers do not accept calls or visits from applicants...nor do they hand out paper applications.

Websites like CareerBuilder and Indeed recently started listing how many other applicants apply for the job when you view the posting.
