Thanks for the encouragement. I think I have that syndrome where you think you are fooling everyone and can't do the job you are being offered. But in my case the job is so different than I'm used to that I'm not sure my fears aren't warranted!

I guess I just kinda got cold feet about the new gig. It's a job in a new industry and new duties and responsibilities. I feel like I could fail and then wish I could just go back to where everything was known. I know my job now and I do an awesome job.
The new job, I think i can succeed but I have some doubts since it's not work i've done extensively. I'm just a chicken. That's all.
Buy warm socks! Mankind would still be living in cages but for those who ventured out. Been there! Am in the middle of it again.
Do not be selfish - consider the family and look at three years down the road.
Just wanted to update is thread and let everyone know my decision. I told my employer that I was grateful for the counteroffer but it was time to move on. My wife and I sat down and decided the move would be best for us all.
I had let the stress of a potential move block my vision of why I applied and wanted this in the first place. We will be leaving in a couple of weeks.
Years ago I was in an Army unit that had little use for women, in particular those who had no interest in "appropriate" women's work. I wasn't well recieved and made my disatisfaction with the situation well-known. Then one day one of the men came into the shop bemoaning the notice he'd gotten that morning to start packing his bags to ship out for Korea. I said Shoot, wish they'd asked me ..... he came running over and said will you really go? I said sure, but you have to make sure I can actually take your place. (Women weren't permitted in units designated combat.)
The shop foreman proceeds to freak out upon hearing this ..... "How could you DOOO this to meee?"
I spoke later to a senior NCO, and said I did not understand this reaction. I figured he'd be doing cartwheels of delight. Senior NCO says But there is one thing you have .... they all know you. If you leave, who knows what they're going to send in your place?
