Yep. I'd listen to a lot of books on tape.

55 minutes wouldn't be that bad as long as I didn't have to wake up before 6am to start driving.

I'd personally prefer 20 min or less, but 30 min or less is still OK. When it gets to be 40, eh.

I just applied for a job that will be 35 miles from my home. Commute would be almost all rural freeways. I drove 30 miles daily for many years, half of it thru major congestion. Id prefer much shorter but I dont have much issue with that commute, as long as the job pays a decent wage.

45 to 55 minute drive with little to no traffic is not bad at all. I suppose the only issue you need to factor in his gas mileage, cost of gas, and tolls.

But the furthest I would commute is around 1hr, that's including with moderate to high traffic along the way.

Thanks for the replies everybody.

MDude, I asked for more money to cover the cost of my gas. There are no tolls that I would have to pay.

Did you ask for an increase in overall pay to account for the time you lose in the commute? That's something to consider as well. If you'd normally commute a total of 40 minutes each day and are now commuting 1:40, that's 240 hours give or take each year of work time that used to be non-work time or could have been paid overtime. For something to be worth it to me, the pay differential has to take into account the extra time I spend in the car. You're also going to have to pay for much more wear and tear on the car than just gas, so they're getting a bargain if that's all you're asking.

That's good and if not more money, ask if they will give you a gas card to ease the burden of your commute. Some companies will be flexible.

That's hilarious!

In the same forum you will have a 20 page thread started by someone complaining about how terrible companies are and how they can't get a decent job to save their lives, followed by a thread where people say they refuse to drive more than 20 min to a job. Priorities man, priorities.
