Let's say you work at a marketing agency or service provider. Is there any issue or conflict of interest with applying for an opening at a company that has been your client? If so, is it different if the work you've actually done is for an LLC that owns a group of franchises rather than corporate (and the opening would be with corporate, not the LLC)?

You should talk to the hiring manager of the client company and also your current manager to find out. There might be some agreement they have with each other.

Here is the concern, sometimes that business in which you are applying didn't really think too highly of your companies antics.

Check your contract for any significant verbiage on this scenario. I was not allowed to disclose formulas, former accounts or any financials by my former employ. But nothing was written stating that I was in a non compete contract.

well of course there always could be a conflict.. but here's the gist -does your company have a policy against in (even after leaving?) You'll need to look into that. This will also depend on if the job at the client company will be related to marketing or your work with them. Most client companies in that instance would also have a set length of time that they will not employee someone in that situation - i've seen anywhere from 3 months to 12 months.
