I had an in person interview last Friday with the hiring manager and at the end of our meeting, she asked me to send her a list of references as well as a writing sample.
I've never had someone ask for references before but is the fact that she asked for then at the conclusion a rather good sign?
I have not heard back from the company and my references have told me she hasn't contacted them for what's it's worth...
it's not a bad sign; if they weren't interested at all they likely wouldn't have asked (although it may be part of their standard process). I always say that i will only give out references if i'm a final candidate for a role; but you don't necessarily have to do that (depends on your role and level). Also, some companies are REALLY slow at the hiring process. Mine is typically a 3 month process from interview to offer so don't get discouraged if you don't hear right away- it's not always a bad sign. I would just recommend to keep looking for other opportunities until you get an offer you're happy with.
I've never had an interview where they asked for references.
References were listed on the application form, and if the company wanted to move ahead, they'd contact them afterwards.
Sounds like hiring manager was just making a canned statement, but who knows, these things can take time.
