For jobs that have marginal offers for high COL areas applicants should start asking if the boss has a spare bed room for them to stay in for the duration of tenure at the company and get it in a contract. That might get their attention to start making reasonable offers for companies that insist on operating out of sky high cost of living areas.

Interesting points I'm learning. Car insurance is 1/3 higher in the area. Cost of groceries (especially meat) 50% less (organic farm). Gasoline was 25% less now about the same. Housing much much less. Water free and superb quality. No more bottled H2O. NO state income tax, sales tax 8.9%. If you buy a car in another states with No sales tax you must wait 90 days to bring it into Washington to avoid sales or use tax.
Congrats. Always nice to see another person successfully land an out of state job. It can be done, and it's great to have proof to show all the naysayers on the forum.
Just a f/u. The company is question is having some real issues. Received email had to "rework" salary. HR confirmed job was to be offered an to expect offer. was told that CEO out of town til Nov 5. Then offer would be forthcoming. emailed yesterday to HR. Her auto response said she was out of town until August 5 (seriously). No response further...
Have been provisionally offered another position in the area and despite working hard on this one....it's problematic working in such a situation...friends advised that this disorganization would continue once in place and seriously consider aborting....
You have been working on this for just over three months now. That is a really long time for this company to dither. I would be working on plan B if I were in your position.
I would take the second position, forget about the first one, consider them history now.
