So I came in 10 minutes ahead of my scheduled interview, went up to the front desk and told the cashier i was there for my 9 o'clock interview. i was told "Oh, wait over there." by the surly cashier. I noticed the interviewer talking to someone already. The surly older woman happened to walk by me and turned around to ask my name, only to walk off again. The interviewer concluded her interview at around 9:09 and began to walk in my direction. i was about to greet her but she immediately buried her face in her smart phone and briskly walked to the back, and didn't come out again. So i waited for 11 minutes and then left at 9:21

this was for a dishwashing job at a fast food franchise, in case anyone cares

It depends on how badly you need a job. The longest I waited was 30 minutes, but the receptionist told me the person was running late. If I was blatantly ignored I would wait up to 40 minutes and then walk out.

20-30 minutes. Any longer, I bail.

I'm the type of person who is early to everything. I get to interviews at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time. If the HM is late by a few minutes it is OK, I understand they have lots of things going on throughout the day. But they need to learn how to prioritize their time better. Look at it from the other side; If an applicant was scheduled for 2:00 and came in at 2:25, they would be shown the door.

You both wouldn't go to a receptionist or secretary and say, "excuse me I'm waiting for ms/m XYZ my appointment was for 9:00…..)

You just walk out…..without inquiring --"what's the deal?" (will I bee seen or not)

I know the interviewer should keep you or the receptionist informed so she can tell you…but I don't think I'd just leave…..without trying to reschedule.

If the interviews is just an HR or pre-screen person and not the hiring manager, you just need to get past this hiccup to get further in the process. (which is why if that person isn't having a good day or doesn't have time to see you -- clearly another day would be better.)

If the interviewer was running late, I would get an employee's attention and ask how much longer I'd have to wait. If it was a long time, then I'd reschedule. I wouldn't just leave without saying anything.
