I interviewed with the HR manager on Friday and in the afternoon she sent an email saying the hiring manager was interested in interviewing me. She said to give her a call sometime next week to schedule.

However, I noticed a new job opening, which I'm equally qualified for, that's even more appealing to me. I applied for the job already, but I haven't heard back regarding my application since it's been like 2 days? When I call her next week, should I ask her if she could consider me for that role as well? Or leave it out of the conversation?

I suppose if they're interested, they'll contact me, but what do I know. And I'm not even sure if she's the one responsible for that specific job requisition. But I would love to be blunt and let her know of my interest for that job.

Would love your feedback!

Thank you.

Some would say that expressing interest in another position shows you are scattered or not focused but instead of that, consider that if you want the other position, you have to justify your interest by explaining why you are particularly qualified for that job.

What you bring to that position, how you would excel, what 'results' they can expect from you.

It could work out that the benefit of hiring you for the 'other' position outweighs the benefits of hiring you for the first position.

You need to show them how it 'all adds up' to your being better suited for the 'other' position.

It is up to you to explain why you are a 'best choice' for that other position.
