Hi All,

First time poster but a question for all. So I've been unemployed for six months as my last company downsized my position due to new ownership. Fast forward six months and the new ownership drove the company into the ground and they declared bankruptcy last week.

Sooooo my question is if I put April 2017 as my end date so it looks like I just stopped working can that be caught by a new company interviewing me? After all they can't call the company to verify as it doesn't exist anymore so no HR to speak too!

I don't want to do that but being honest after six months employers due question why you have such a large gap and I'll do anything to make my resume more presentable in this tough economy.

So even if a company goes bankrupt can a background search still be done to verify your start and end dates? Just trying to keep a leg up in my search for work!!

Imho it's best to be completely up front. A lie may be caught and you could either be terminated or even prosecuted in some areas. Even these days honesty is the best policy.

Just tell them the truth, they can find out when a company went out of business.
