I don't know, I need to make a decision tomorrow. My recruiter has been emailing me all weekend to see if I am signing the offer letter.

Well your recruiter knows your made up background anyways, so you cant just tell the truth for the next one with them. That means you would be done with that recruiter regardless.

You decline the offer and learn from your mistakes so it doesn't happen again in the future.

I declined the offer, and thanked my Recruiting Agency for helping me throughout the entire process.

Should I email the Office manager that I interviewed with and thank her as well?

This was a huge lesson learned for me. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this post and hopefully I can find a job with my credentials.

You lied on a job application but you're worrying about emailing people to thank them? What is wrong with you? Don't draw attention to yourself and next time don't lie.

Yeah don't email lol

What are you going to gain from that? And what would you say? "Hi, thanks for the job offer that I obtained by lying. My bad!"

Just curious, OP -- if there were no background check, would you have accepted the offer?

I cant believe you didn't go through with the background check. You could have passed it. The headhunter and employer already invested their time in interviewing you, and I'm sure they still weren't happy you turned it down.

You made the right decision. They would have found out during the background check.

Good luck to you!

Yeah you should have went through with it, the worse that could have happened is you get blackballed from that company which doesn't matter because you can't apply there again anyway with a different resume. One of my friends hadn't graduated yet and put he had completed his degree on his resume. He applied to a big corporation and was given an offer, they did the background check and it didn't come up that he didn't have his degree yet. People do it all the time and get away with it. I think you made a mistake as declining resulted in a lose lose situation.
