I have interviewed at 2 companies (A and B).
Company A - 1 year consulting engagement, no benefits. - My second choice as its consulting.
Company B - full time with benefits. - My first choice as its full time.

Company A moved quite quickly to offer a job as they have challenges and need help. Work seems to be monotonous. They went through a background check and rate negotiations that took about 10 days. I accepted the offer as no word from Company B.

A week after I accepted the offer at company A (at will employment), Company B gives me an offer.
Obviously I would prefer a full time role and now confused on how to proceed.

I would like to backout of company A and accept company B.

I am 1 week into a 2 week notice at my current job.

Thanks

Take company B. Thank company A but don't look back. It's business and you owe Company A nothing except a thanks but no thanks.

Congrats!

Thank you!
Would this be considered 'burning bridges' with Company A?

I agree with Mr_Greek to go with Company B.

A full time job with benefits is almost always better than a temp job with no benefits, and Company A should understand that (though obviously this will be "burning a bridge" with them so you won't be able to work for them in the future). They haven't invested much time in you, so it shouldn't be a huge deal for them to move on to another candidate at this point. Just explain that you were offered a permanent job that you can't refuse, thank them for the opportunity, and acknowledge that this will be an inconvenience for them or apologize if you want.

I'm not sure about the 2 weeks notice though. Are you going to tell Company B you can start working within 1 week?

I may be able to stay at my current job for that week, which would be the 3rd week. So for company B it would be a '2 week' notice

Take company B, understanding that company A is not likely to want to hire you in the future.

Either tell B that you can start in a week, or take a week off between Your current position and B. You could also stay with your current employer with their agreement if you wanted.

Congratulations.
